Adios, Elf

by AP on November 29, 2010 · 28 comments

It’s a sad day today in Sunday Morning P1-land, as the UnTicket has learned via Twitter that Mark Elfenbein will be leaving the Ticket after nearly 18 17 years of good strong service. What makes this news even worse is that Elf will be following the treacherous path blazed by Mark Fredo Friedman, Ben and Skin, and Kevin Scott; that is, he’s leaving to join a competing station.  Naturally, this is the first thing that came to my mind:

With great sadness, I file this post under the “Ex Ticket” category.  Extra, extra, extra crispy, indeed.

P.S. They may have talked about it all day today, but I wouldn’t know as I’m a day behind – taking a page from Dan McDowell’s book.

[UPDATE] – Elf will be holding down the Monday-Friday 11:00AM-2:00PM timeslut..err…slot on the Fan.

Dude was so awesome he spent 18 years at a station that’s been on the air less than 17.

Truly disappointing even though he’ll still be on the radio here. He was a day 1 Ticket personality wasn’t he? Pretty impressive stuff for sure.

I though the great Josh Lewin had the 11 to 2 spot for the fan?! Did he get fired again?!

You know what’s awesome about Ben and Skin?

5 Broose November 30, 2010 at 12:25 am

Wasn’t this the time slot that Josh Lewin had? Don’t tell me he got canned already.

A genuinely really good guy. He’ll be missed.

So he will go from no one listening to him on the Ticket to no one listening to him on the Fan?

Elf is not bad. He was pretty good at grabbing the Sunday sports page and running all his opinions straight off of that.

I always liked listening to Elf on Sunday mornings as I nurse a hangover…kinda blows that he’ll be gone. Good luck on the Fail, Mark…have good and get give.

I predict Cirque De Sirois gets the Sunday morning spot. Good for those guys, they have something.

13 AP November 30, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I concur, Ticket Gimp. However, Elf could carry an entire show by himself for several hours – Not sure that these boys could do it, but I certainly wish them the best.

Elf was the single worst thing about the Ticket. You put him and Dick Hicks in the same room with me and I think I’d deafen myself before I killed them so I wouldn’t have to listen to their screams.

Awful, awful show. Plus, f*ck the longhorns.

But tell us how you really feel…

I used to really like the Bottlerockets (Elf & Steve Shapiro) in the early, early days of the Ticket. Couldn’t stand Studer, so I tuned out Elf.

Elf was a day over and had a clue about sports. Made Sunday mornings great and fill INS were good. Enjoyed he and Followill on Mavs post game shows. What all you dorks fail to realize is Elf is the smart one! At least he’s going to the Fan with a REAL PROVEN program director who has serious skins on the wall. Including the lil Ticket. He joins Bruce Gilbert. Brilliant move. Love my Ticket, love me some Elf….look out fellow P-1′s, this will make impact!

MEH! Great people who are solid radio talents can’t recreate what happens on the Ticket. Getting to breaks on time, booking guests, and running a flawless show is only a quarter of the battle (if that). Putting something together that is worth listening to, funny, irreverent, and that will gradually grow to have a P1-like-brotherhood-following is what it will take to even match the little Ticket, and I predict that doesn’t happen. Will they get numbers that would be acceptable in any other sports market? Sure. But not DFW, not while KTCK AM 1310 The Sports Ticket AM Sports is still around.

Pffft…what-ever, bro…

Will miss Elf on Sunday’s.

Wasn’t he who shall not be named doing 11-2?

22 Bhud December 1, 2010 at 7:11 pm

Elf chapped my ass. I love dirty jews, don’t get me wrong. But he was Doug Stanhope’s perfect example of the “over-jewer”. We get it, ok? You produce lots of phlegm and laugh funny and have an overbearing mother. I don’t throw shit at people and just say it’s because of my ‘ape ancestry’. Same thing with Damn Dan Mcdowell being the superliberal and Fernando being the champion of the gays.

23 Speedbump Joey December 1, 2010 at 7:40 pm

He joined Lewin and they are co-hosting the 11-2. Listened to it for a bit during one of Norm’s breaks. Not too bad seems like it will work, but I will definitely miss the Sunday Morning Elf voice.

24 Rhynes December 3, 2010 at 9:47 am

Eff, I mean Elf… he’ll be missed, somesuch. He was a Day-Oner.

25 dumby December 4, 2010 at 6:35 pm

elf was the worst. good riddance.

26 leftytwice December 7, 2010 at 4:10 pm

someday you’ll go back into your cave you crawled out from. To spit such venom at Elf only shows the lack of class you have. get a life and get a grip. Go back to sweeping floors and watching cartoons.

27 leftytwice December 7, 2010 at 4:13 pm

get a life and get a grip….your showing your ignorance by ripping a good guy in elf….he did a hell of a show for 17 years and got a new job. What the hell is wrong with that? go crawl back into your cave and watch cartoons and play video all night. Your lack of education is obvious.
