There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the smoking cessation drug called Chantix since Carter Albrecht was killed last September. The great Robert Wilonsky over at The Observer posted an interesting article about it.
Basically, the FDA has issued the following public health advisory…
“It appears increasingly likely that there may be an association between Chantix and serious neuropsychiatric symptoms,” read the advisory, including “agitation, depressed mood, suicidal ideation, and actual suicidal behavior.”
Umm…yeah, sounds great. Where can I get some?
Not.

Maybe that should be the gum of choice in prisons where murderers and other similar people are locked up. See what happens when they all take it all the time.

A blood alcohol level that is more than three times the legal limit is probably more dangerous than the risk associated with Chantix.

could be, but highly unlikely. I’m quite sure that Carter could handle his booze. he had years to build his to his tolerance to alcohol but no time to get used to Chantix.
as far as the “legal limit” goes, that’s a joke, too. did you realize that if you drink 3 beers in one hour and are of average height/weight you could technically be 3 times over the legal limit?

“I’m quite sure that Carter could handle his booze. he had years to build his to his tolerance to alcohol but no time to get used to Chantix.”
So the higher your tolerance to alcohol, the less likely you are to get drunk?
Uhh, OK.
“Did you realize that if you drink 3 beers in one hour and are of average height/weight you could technically be 3 times over the legal limit?”
Only if the legal limit was about .02.. And that’s assuming the 6′4″ Albrecht weighed 200 lbs.

@ GravyPan - well, according to that chart I stand corrected. but my point about Carter was not that it took him longer to get drunk because of his tolerance…just that he DID have a tolerance for alcohol to some degree….but not with Chantix.

What makes me believe it was the addition of Chantix and not all the alcohol in his system are the testimonies from his friends and family saying he NEVER showed aggression. The fact that the FDA made that announcement says a lot. I know they are all just trying to cover their asses, however, if it fucks with your mind and they say it can cause “..serious neuropsychiatric symptoms”, that along with the alcohol turned out to be a deadly combo. Sucks!
RIP dude

Hmmm,
I wonder why the the makers of Chantix would put a warning on the drug that says DO NOT TAKE WITH ALCOHOL?
Could it be because you might beat up your girlfriend and try to kick in your neighbor’s door at 4:00 a.m ?. . . . . possibly.

Could be scummybear. Wonder if that would be a deal breaker if you were looking into an anti-smoking product and on the label it reads,
Scary stuff. Makes me want to start smoking.
